Heal The Itchy, Dry Skin That Jack Frost Was “Kind” Enough to Share With You This Winter!

During the winter months, it’s very common to get itchy, dry skin due to the cold, dry weather along with some other related factors. There are some very simple precautions you can take to heal that dry, itchy skin almost immediately. So tell Jack Frost to Kiss-off! and get back your smooth, soft, non-itchy skin with these simple steps…
- The first step in clearing-up your dry skin is getting rid of the stuff by exfoliating. To do this, you want to get your hands on a prescription or over-the-counter keratolytic moisturizer, one containing lactic or salicylic acid. If you have extremely sensitive skin, just use a soft scrub in the shower.
- Next, make sure to always take warm baths or showers, not steaming hot ones. I know this is probably hard to do when it’s so cold outside and there’s nothing better than a hot shower, but it will dry out your skin big time.
- When taking a bath or shower, use only mild cleansers, preferably all-natural or organic cleansers, so that your body retains its moisture content more efficiently. After your shower, apply a mild body lotion for added protection and healing.
- If you’re outdoors a lot during the winter months, consider using sunscreen with at least SPF 15. Sounds a little weird, but the snow reflects about 80& of the sun back at us, which is far more than during the summer months.
- Drink lots of water – even when you don’t feel thirsty. Many people drink less water during the winter months than they do in the summer and that’s bad for your skin’s moisture content.
- Consume foods containing healthy fat, such as walnuts, flax, and fish. Omega-3’s help to maintain your skin’s natural oil barrier which helps protect it against the elements. It also helps to keep you skin looking great and aids in reducing acne. Consider taking fish oil supplements.
- Use a humidifier in your home to combat your furnace’s release of dry air. There are also humidifiers on the market that hook directly up to your furnace so you can heat your house without drying out the air.
So enjoy the winter months with smooth, beautiful-looking skin with these easy tips. If you have any other good tips for keeping your skin looking great during the winter months, feel free to post them below.

Great information! My husband has dry hands that will crack and bleed, and it never used to be a problem when we lived in AZ, but ever since we moved to the midwest, his hands have been getting more and more dry. These are great tips, and I will pass these one to help him thank you! Recently I was reading in my Lifescript newsletter and I found this great article on dry, itchy skin and it really helped us as well! Thanks!
