Weight Loss Challenge Update

It’s been awhile since I posted an update to the progress of my weight loss challenge. The reason for this is because I don’t have much progress to update! My weight loss has fluctuated a bit due to a lack of exercise the past couple months, but I’m slowly getting back on track.

Finishing the basement, taking care of a 7 month old baby, freelance writing, blogging, baseball games, softball games, school functions, friends, family, marriage…isn’t all that stuff a workout?? My life is no different than most other people out there struggling to find time to exercise and eat right. But it’s important to remember that even though you may be busy with everything going on in your life, it’s extremely important to find time to be active. If you notice, I don’t say exercise. There are ways to get the benefits of treadmill exercise or lifting weights at the gym without actually doing either of those things. Try and fit your workout into your everyday life.

Here’s an example from my own life…

It’s almost summer again, which means the grass needs to mowed every week – great opportunity to workout!…And I’m not talking about using a riding lawn mower with a cup holder for your beer! Mowing the lawn is great exercise for your body, and a good way to get outside and enjoy the fresh air.

I take mowing the lawn to the next level. My 7 month old daughter loves the sound of mower (often times falls asleep to it), so I strap her on to my back using our backpack baby carrier for a little bit of added resistance to my “workout”. That little bundle of joy adds an extra 18 pounds and helps to burn more calories during my 45 minute “lawn mower workout”. *Disclaimer*: My baby sits completely hidden behind me so flying debris from the mower would hit me, not her, so make sure that’s the case if you try this at home.

This is just one example of how you can take your daily activities and turn them into a workout. It’s all about being active everyday – your body appreciates it.

So even though I haven’t had much time lately to actually get on the treadmill (aside from the fact it’s covered in building materials right now for finishing the basement), I still find time to multitask my workout with my day-to-day chores. Since it has gotten nicer outside, I’ve also been able to hit the bike trails and ride for a few miles here and there. It’s so much easier to exercise in the summer, isn’t it.

Despite that fact that I’ve only lost about 4-5 since I started my weight loss challenge, I’m not discouraged. This challenge is more about a lifestyle change, not a 30-day fad diet to lose 15 pounds fast. I’m looking long term, and the future looks bright.
